r/Nails: A place to show off your beautiful nails

Welcome to /r/nails! For anything and everything to do with nails and nail care!

Nail Care Series (In Progress):

Rule 1: Be civil and respectful.

There is a zero-tolerance policy on anything that can be perceived as bullying, harassment, ridiculing, trolling, or any actions that target an individual in a negative way. This is a place of appreciation for others artwork, so please keep that in mind at all times.

Rule 2: No NSFW content.

Keep images, comments and links work/age appropriate. Anything explicit, graphic, or sexual will be removed. Any photos that depict dangerous, risky or illicit activity is also against the rules (for example: drug use, self harm, using a cellphone while driving, etc).

Rule 3: Flair your posts!

Flairs serve as a way to let users know what your post is about. We do not remove posts that aren’t flared, but the flairs are what our search function relies upon, so we ask that you please assign them to your posts.

Rule 4: Credit the work of others.

If the picture or content you are posting is NOT your own, you are required to credit the artist or acknowledge that it’s not yours, either within the post’s title or in a comment. You will receive a warning before being banned, if we suspect you are stealing others art. PLEASE REPORT MISCONDUCT.

Rule 5: Stay on topic.

All posts must be related to nails (the kind that grow on your hands and feet)! Comments should contribute to the conversation and not derail the discussion.

Rule 6: No advertising.

Self-promotional content (this includes but is not limited to Youtube “trend” & “tutorial” videos, surveys, well as blog posts) are not permitted to be posted without mod approval. If you do not follow Reddit's rules for self promotion and spam, your post will be removed and you will likely be banned. Your account history will be taken into consideration when concluding if you are a spammer or not. Moderators will use their own discretion to decide. Keep the following quote in mind: ”It’s ok to be a Reddit account with a website, but it’s not ok to be a website with a Reddit account”

Rule 7: No trolling and/or spamming.

Report anything that you feel violates the integrity of the subreddit.

Rule 8: No distributing personal information.

This includes name, address, phone number, gender, age, location or links to websites that provide that information like Facebook. Applies to sharing the private information of people aside from yourself as well. Small watermarks are OKAY, however we ask that you do NOT include them in your post titles. In an effort to limit self-promotional content, we are asking users to avoid sharing Instagram/social media handles as post titles. Instead, our users now have the option to customize their User Flair. On r/Nails, you can select and edit your own flair. To do so, log in using the desktop version of Reddit.com, look for where it says “Edit Flair” in the sidebar to the right. This button should be located just under our subscriber count. Click on it for a list of images for you to select from. In order to create your own flair, choose “[CUSTOM]”, and then enter something into the text box (Example — “IG: @nails”). Click 'Save' to finish.

Rule 9: No hate speech or suggestive comment making.

This includes but is not limited to racism, sexism and/or homophobia. And because this apparently still isn't clear enough, insulting and personally attacking other users or making unwanted sexual comments is grounds for an immediate ban.

Rule 10: No politics.

No political posts, political keywords, or political debates.

Why does my gel top coat keep leaving craters?

I painted my nails with three layers of a beautiful color changing cosmic ILNP. They looked perfect. Then I put on a gel top coat on so they’d be a bit stronger ( I have thin nails). The gel coat left all the craters and indentations and now my whole manicure I spent an hour on looks awful.

Why did this happen? And how do I fix it!?

Thanks y’all.

Kiara sky dip base broken bottle

Hey guys! This is my second time using this new bottle of the Kiara Sky dip base. First time I used it I did some nail swatches, cleaned the top of the bottle with 100% acetone, and then stored it away. I was doing my moms nails and the bottle was a little stuck and I applied the smallest amount of pressure trying to open it and the top of the bottle just shattered. Has anyone had this happen? What should I do?

Birthday Nail Ideas?

Hi friends! My birthday is in 6 days and I need ideas for a birthday manicure. I like short/medium almond shape and sparkles; my favorite color is pink, but I want something a little more extra than just sparkly pink on all my nails. I don't get bling/crystals because my lifestyle isn't really suitable for that.

My latest set - ready for November 🤎

This is my third fill with hard gel. I think I’m really getting the hang of this & I’m starting to wonder if I should start practicing on others. I am a license cosmetologist, we didn’t focus much on nails but it really grew into a passion for me. Any advice for starting out on nail clients? And constructive feedback about the set is more than welcome. Thanks for reading!

The nails I did today for a friend!

I think they turned out GORGEOUS! They're a dark blue base with a purple/blue cat eye on top! All done with gel. I'm going to school soon to learn to be a nail tech so my friends are letting me practice on them!

How to make press ons last for weeks?

I’m a dog groomer and work with my hands a lot so I need to know how to make them last through that and also being in water lol. I love acrylics but I need to save money, any suggestions? Like what’s the best glue or should I use gel?
