First off, does IL-2 ‘juice’ ai plane performance? And if so, is there a difficulty level where it still respects the actual plane’s performance?

I’m trying to get better at the game, but I’d like to avoid practicing against an AI that turns and performs better than their plane should allow.

After playing some War Thunder Air Sim on M&K and being left very unsatisfied, I've decided to take the next step towards air simulators and buy IL-2 1946. Or, at least, thought about it. I haven't actually bought it yet, because I wanted to get a flight stick first (I don't want a HOTAS or pedals, desk space is important for me).

After looking through various reviews online, I'm split between two joysticks at the moment: The Thrustmaster T16000M FCS and the Logitech Extreme 3D Pro. They're both the same price where I live.
I'm more heavily leaning towards the Thrustmaster, because I heard it's more precise and heavier-feeling, however, I'm worried about the rumours of its' twist rudder control ceasing to function after a while, and, above all, I'm worried that IL-2 1946 won't support it since it's too new of a flight stick for such an old game.
As for the Logitech, I'm leaning towards it mostly because of patented Old Logitech Product Durability, I play racing games and own a 20 year old PS2 Logitech Wheel (Driving Force Pro) that still works like new, I also own an F310 rumble pad, etc. Their older stuff is built to last, which I really appreciate, so I'm assuming that'll carry over to the flight stick. There's also the plus of it likely having very high compatibility with most flight sims out there, IL-2 1946 definitely included. However, the lack of hall effect (and consequently the huge deadzone that it has) worries me.

I also eventually plan on trying out other games with the joystick, like War Thunder, but that's off-topic.

So the tl;dr is: Does IL-2 1946 work with the T16000M FCS? If so, would you reccomend it over a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro?

I need your help. I am new to il 2 but have played both war thunde and dcs. I just bought the game however my hotas the Orion 2 from winwing does not seem to be correctly Working. I have test all the buttons and on both the throttle and the joystick and they seem to work. However the throttle the pitch and the roll do not seem to work. I have recreated the imput folder multiple times and tired recalibrating the hotas through sim app. However nothing has worked.

this is a complete my to me given the hotas had no problems in any other game.

how should I fix this?

Not sure what the drill is, if there has been a patch to the core game I have missed (steam), but my thrustmaster throttle part of my hotas is no longer recognised.

Have updated soft and firmware in Windows(11), unplugging and replugging, but nothing.

Any ideas?

Hi, I have been saving up to get some flight sim gear.

Last year just before black friday I discovered Virpil but decided I couldn't spend that kind of money yet.

I think I can do it this year, so what should I buy. Virpil, WinWing (ffb?) or VKB??? Or maybe some mix??

I have an aluminum rig, ultrawide screen and a reverb g2

Main goal is to be able to jump in and have fun, but I don't want to feel that I should have picked something different at any point.

I haven't flown a sim for many years.
Best guess I'll be doing IL-2 as I like ww2 planes, maybe some arma helicopters, probably some light stuff like star wars squadrons at times also so the setup has to be versatile and not necessarily specific to any one aircraft.

I think I want a center mounted extended joystick as I like warbirds. Throttle and pedals are a must for immersion I guess?

Any and all buying advice welcome. This is what I know, tell me what you know!

I purchased volume 1 a few days ago and have been doing the scripted missions campaigns.

The game is gorgeous in VR, I have no issues with that, really blown away by it.

The honeymoon period wears off quickly however and it's solely due to imho the damage models and ai behavior.

Right off the bat I noted the enemy ai is REALLY BAD. They fly around in circles in general, some try to avoid you sometimes but for the most part they just do figure 8's, when one gets on your six he doesn't DO anything half the time, he's just there until you snap roll away.

Another thing I really dislike is this plane wobble. As soon as you pepper an ai plane, he begins to wobble and begin evasive rolls etc. The issue is the wobble just looks too unrealistic and sped up, Like the plane is on rails going from point to point and the wobble also doesn't look nice in VR.

I've killed enemy pilots got the kill then seen that 'dead ai plane' following team mates doing figure 8's / wobbling around in the sky. It's immersion breaking.

Another thing the ai loves to do is kill themselves! I realize air collisions did happen but this ai really loves to kill themselves without any sense of what's around them, they crash into balloons, they sometimes crash into each other in formation turns.... It's obviously very poor quality.

There is no satisfaction in coming home minimum an ACE every single flight. I want to feel some fear/indecision when I'm engaged in a dogfight with a group and see backup coming from higher altitude. I want to feel the fear of ai that if you stick on their wingmans six too long they'll glue to your six and begin to pepper you.

Finally the damage model of planes, Occasionally you will get the pilot snipe, sometimes hit the engine and set them on fire but more often than not you can pepper engine area and not disable fast. You can pepper fuselage/tail/wings and use your entire ammo if you're not careful without any apparent flight performance degradation in the ai planes aside from that horrible 'wobble' These planes were delicate, the wing spars, the control wires, the engine couldn't take 100 bullets into it and still keep chugging along, it's immersion breaking.

Aside from these glaring issues in the game I am really enjoying it. Just need more of a challenge from the ai.

So any ai mods or tweaks gentlemen or damage mods to make it more realistic?

I'm playing IL2 BAT and can't get the map to zoom in and out when I'm playing for the Luftwaffe.It seems ok for all other nations but not for ze Germans. Any suggestions?

While some planes like the corsair work fine, a lot of the german/british planes i can't aim down, as the graphic which lets me do so is significantly offsetted. Any ideas how i can fix?

if i look fully to the right, on some planes the graphic moves so i can look down the sites, but then of course i can't see the left side at all which sort of defeats the point.
