I’m the owner, and all of our HomePods consistently ignore my requests. The light flashes for a second as though the request is being handed off to another device, and then nothing else happens. Sometimes it will reply “Something’s wrong. Please try again”.
My husband standing next to me makes the same request, and it works fine.
I’ve tried factory resetting and re-adding them to the Home, but it didn’t help.
I bought a cheap android projector which I actually love for my room. It's small but the sound is awful. I have a pair of HomePods but I can't for the life of me get the projector to connect to HomeKit. Dont need some sort of receiver bridge or hub? I'm trying to reduce the amount of cables etc
I have an Apple TV and I want to get a cheapish, speaker system for my TV as I have only been using the base speakers which aren’t that good. So would the HomePod be a good buy? Would it be better if I get one or two?
Hello Everyone,
I am a student, and I am conducting research on the Smart Home Automation App for my project on the challenges faced in setting up a smart home and what features you would like to include in the smart home automation app. As a part of this, I'm interested in hearing from the community about the most common problems you've encountered when building your own smart home.
Thank you in advance for your participation! Your insights will greatly help me understand the practical challenges individuals are interested in creating smart homes.

The original adapter (v1), was designed to restore HomePods upside-down (needed for DFU mode), but will get crushed if you place it upright on a table while connected! Ever since I discovered that HomePods let you airplay to them locally over USB, there has been a lot of demand for a proper dock.
After a lot of hours expanding on tihmstar's adapter, I've finally created a dock for 1st Gen HomePods!
Along with it is a fancy case to store it when not in use. The cap for the case fits perfectly over the plastic top of the HomePod, to prevent scratches when restoring a HomePod while upside-down.
You can check my dock out on my website https://nicsfix.com/shop and email me at nic@nicsfix.com to order as many as you like! You can use 3rd party software like Airfoil to play to multiple USB homepods in tandem with your other airplay speakers
If you want to make a v1 USB adapter to restore your own homepods, check my github guide! https://github.com/UnbendableStraw/homepwn-simple
Here are the steps to restore your own HomePod: https://github.com/UnbendableStraw/homepod-restore/
For those that already bought a v1 adapter from me, I added a table stand to the github repo too ^ It can raise the base of the HomePod so your adapter isn't being crushed, and, also fits over the top of the HomePod to protect it while upside down. I'm including one with all v1 orders
I am keeping track of what you can / cant do over USB with HomePods here; hoping others will explore and find more hidden functionality: https://github.com/UnbendableStraw/homepod-usbairplay
No, there is no way to get AUX in :( The debug port on HomePods is purely 4-wire USB and UART. There is no analog audio in or out here.
If your HomePod is having issues, check out my website at https://nicsfix.com for my repair services and knowledgebase
Happy HomePods, Forever!
Good evening,
I would like to know if it is possible to program music automatically on my HomePod at home, once I leave home at a specific time?
If yes how to do it?
Thank you so much.
I currently have a HomePod Mini with a lot of automations set up, it was a pain to do!
I’d like to now get the bigger HomePod but wondering if there’s a way to back up all my settings and automations and then restore them to the new HomePod?
I don’t want to have to start all over!
Thanks.
I have had an extensive listening session between first and second gens today and all I can say is that first gen SOUNDS BETTER. Like significantly. First gen sounds more natural, second gen sounds contained and the bass roll off is too drastic. It is true that the second gen seems louder because of the bright high frequencies but it lacks warmth and bass. What I found is that listening to some jazz etc on DA, the first gen was actually more spatial, and the voices where sharp, the second gen voice was kind of robotic. I will continue to test them throughout the week to see if there’s an improvement from second gen. (About siri performance it’s identical)
I’m wondering which HomePod I should get for my home. I’m looking for my main floor, it is very open and I don’t know if a HomePod or HomePod mini would be better. I love to listen to music so I thought the big HomePod would be better because of the sound quality, but it seems quite overpriced. I also thought of just getting 2 or 3 minis and spreading them throughout the floor and that would be cheaper. Is the Big HomePod worth the price for the sound or should I just go with the minis?
Is there an advantage to setting this up ? Currently I just have them connected to my AppleTV and they sound great. Is the Audio better somehow ?
And I have a couple of asks.
What’s the most cost effective music service? I have a big music collection I have purchased over the years (CD). Am I resigned to having to accept my could streaming service fate?
How to link to my TV (Android TV). I read that I need an Apple TV somewhere. That’s annoying! Why do I have to plug an Apple TV into my Android TV? Should I just get a dumb TV and hookup an Apple TV?
I have (now) two HomePod 2nd generation. The first one I bought 2023 this new one just recently October 2024. My original HomePod(2nd gen exact same model) digs deep and has impressive low end bass. Whatever DSP crossover or amp changes(Apple won’t confirm anything.) completely ruined this product for me I’m beyond pissed I sent one back got a replacement same thing. This is definitely software DSP crossover amp idfk. I’m about replace it and just never buy one again. As far as I’m concerned this is just not worth the trouble anymore. (Disclaimer majority of music sounds similar in quality mids and highs, the bass is seriously lacking and I hate it.) sorry for rant I’m fed up.
really annoyed Intercom volume was not fixed.
anyone know how long till 18.2 comes out?
Also please report any issues to https://www.apple.com/feedback/homepod/
A few weeks ago, I upgraded my network to run on TP-Link Deco X10 Mesh routers. (I had an Apple AirPort running the whole network before, and while the Homepods were rock solid on that one, the rest of the network suffered.)
I set up the Decos to run on 5GHz only, with 2.4GHZ completely disabled. (I remembered that part from the old network when dual-band caused a lot of problems for my stereo pair of Gen2 Homepods.)
Anyway, after the upgrade I noticed my kitchen Homepod dropping almost constantly and never being able to be used for more than a few minutes at max.
Did some research and found out a lot of other people were having problems with similar configurations. Read anything from AP/client isolation to changing MAC-addresses.
The X10 Decos don't have a setting for AP isolation, so that was a no-go. Instead, they have a setting for "preferred Deco," which I set to static (vs automatic) for all the Homepods. And a setting to disabled Mesh-routing. That didn't really help, but it didn't make the issue worse either. As the Homepods are not moving, I left the static Deco assignment on, but turned the Mesh-routing back on.
Next, I found out about the issue with Apple's Private Wi-Fi Address and how that can mess up this too. So, off I went and disabled Private Wi-Fi Address for my home network and rebooted everything. This helped. Not a lot, but it did. Some devices were now able to use some Homepods almost normally. But it didn't fix the issue.
The connections were still flaky, but MAC-addresses stayed the same. Apple's Home app showed them as connected, but the Deco app showed them dropping off and popping back on almost constantly.
Then, after poking around the Deco software, I found a setting in the depths of the Wi-Fi configuration for the security. Which was, for some reason, set to "WPA/WPA2."
I switched that to "WPA2/WPA3 Personal," and boom, everything started working perfectly. No more dropping Homepods, no more disconneting devices or dropping sound.
So, if anyone else is having a problem with Homepod minis on a Deco network, make sure:
The home stretch is always the slowest. Been stuck here for almost 10 minutes. I hope this update just brings more consistency and reliability. There isn’t a time when HomePod simply decides it won’t connect to my devices. And without fail, it’ll decide to work again a few days later after I leave ir alone out of frustration. FWIW, it does work as a stand alone voice command device so I just ask if mundane questions like weather, time, play my Apple Music playlists…. Ect. But connecting to my Mac or iPhone is very touch and go.
TLDR : Apple TV and HomePod mini setup, seeking advice on creating a subwoofer-like setup.
So I have been a big Apple consumer but I recently bought an Apple TV and two HomePod minis which come Nov 1st (had an ordeal with a iPhone order that I bought through Apple turns out it was faulty so they gave me a new one and Instore credit) Anyway!
I wanted to ask are you only able to do a stereo pair and only that for the Apple TV or are you able to do like an additional let’s say I put the gen 1 or 2 to “act” like a subwoofer, would that work..? Or is there any known workarounds to have this idea work..? Or am I just delusional and not able to do that.
Fanks strangers
I've been playing music all day and no skips or weirdness so far. It looks like the 18.1 package has some fixes in it. Original Homepods in stereo pair.
Hi, i have 2 homepods in different rooms. The first is in the kitchen and second is living room. There is not so much space between these, so both can hear "hi siri". Is there any option how i can adjust and select only one of the homepods with siri? like "siri play in kitchen"
Hi everyone, I purchased two Homepod Gen 2s. Thus far, I have no complaints, except I'm trying to figure out how to raise and lower the volume without asking Siri to do it for me.
I thought there were supposed to be +/- on the top touch circle, but I don't see them. Any advice? Thanks!
Hi. Sorry if this seems like a noob question but I need help setting up a certain automation.
I have a HomePod in my office and always have some music playing at a low volume. Just some bg music for productivity. At present I’ve set it up as a shortcut so that this track starts playing.
The issue is that my area often is susceptible to power cuts for brief periods (10-20mins) and I haven’t connected the HomePod to an ups or a backup source.
I want the track to resume (or start again) playing as soon as the power returns and the HomePod turns on again.
At present I have to manually start it each time.
Any way to set it up as an automation?
Thanks in advance :)
Hey people, i currently own Google nest mini as a smart speaker and unfortunate to say it’s the only non-Apple device currently in my ecosystem. I finally thought it would be a good idea to go for the HomePod mini so i was wondering if Siri on the speaker is gonna be better after the ios 18.1 AI features? Is Apple planning to launch a new speaker with AI? Should i wait for that? Suggestions are welcomed!
Hi, i have xiaomi 4k laser projector, if i have 2 pcs homepod 2 is these possible to connect over bluetooth to xiaomi? or will it detect only 1 homepod?
Am I doing something wrong? I expected so much more from the sound of my HomePods. I mean, it sounds like they are underwater… I toggled the “reduce base“ button and also chose treble boost on the equalizer in music. Still, I really do wonder if I’m doing something wrong. There is very little treble and very little mid tone… Any ideas?
What should I do?
So i have a Homepod mini got it this year to replace my alexa, although some aspect are better some are also worse that’s besides the point anyway. however i just wanted to ask is there a way to airplay without using wifi. As it only seems to work when im connected to wifi is there a way to fix this?
Does anyone know how I can stop this error appearing with my HomePod stereo pair?
I have two HomePods paired with my Apple TV, all devices including iPhone are on the latest software versions available and they’re all linked to the same WiFi, yet I get this error every time I open the Home app on my iPhone. The names of the WiFi networks are identical and when I click to move the HomePods to the same network, it disappears for a few minutes and then comes back.
Have already tried the usual steps of resetting all devices, including my WiFi router but nothing has helped, so I’m relying on the kindness of you Reddit strangers for help.
Hi everyone!
I have some issues with my Homepod Mini w/ AppleTV & Arc with audio cutting and skipping with streaming with ARC through PS5. Note; This also happens when scrolling through the AppleTV menu on the AppleTV itself! I will attach a video clip of it (https://imgur.com/a/9dFrO1G),
so you know what I'm talking about.
So far, I've tried; Resetting everything (AppleTV, Homepod, Router) Disconnect and reconnect all cables (everything is wired directly to the router) Change from 2.4Ghz & 5Ghz (and vice versa) for the Homepod Mini connection Tried different HDMI cables for both PS5 & AppleTV Tried different settings in AppleTV & TV (Bitstream, PCP) Change Homekit settings And much more.
I've contacted Apple, but they couldn't help as I've done everything that they thought to do. So here I am, taking every bit of advice to get this to work.
Thank you!
Got an iPhone 16 with ai and Siri is honestly amazing compared to what we had but I noticed Siri on HomePods is the same dumb Siri we have always known.
So is Siri ai coming to HomePods ?
I have an outlet that I turn off at 7:04 AM every weekday; I updated last night and it defaulted to a previous config where I had had it turn off at 7:14 AM every weekday. Easy enough to fix, but just a heads up.
