Favorite slang from the 40s?

After watching tons of movies from the 40s, I've really started to pick up on some of the slang words, terms and phrases that were popular at the time. Here are some that I've noticed were used a lot and my rough interpretation of what they would translate to today (feel free to correct me):

  • "On the level": It's legit or truthful.
  • "Racket": Hustle.
  • "Hooey": B.S.
  • "Dame": Hot girl
  • "Swell": Awesome
  • "Sweetpuss/Sourpuss": Pleasant/unpleasant person in reference to their facial expression or demeanor
  • "Hepcat/Hepjill": Male/female jazz hipster.
  • "Bobby Soxer": Female fan girls of Frank Sinatra and pop music.

What are some other ones that were common? What are some of your favorites?

*Edit: How could I forget "Soda Jerk" which was slang for the soda clerk. It was inspired by the jerking action a server used to swing the soda fountain handle back and forth when adding soda water to a beverage.
